When is the best time to take a cruise?
March – May
Perfect for Amazon and Mekong Rivers, as transition to dry season means smooth sailing and excellent wildlife visibility. Egypt and the Nile are also ideal in spring, with cooler weather for comfortable sightseeing. In the Nordics, late spring sees the first sailings to the fjords with lengthening daylight, while Alaska’s cruise season opens in May as snowy peaks and wildlife beginning to show.
June – August
Alaska shines brightest in summer, with long days hours, plenty of wildlife. The Nordics are also beautiful under the Midnight Sun with dramatic lighting on the fjords. Meanwhile, the Amazon and Mekong remain in their dry seasons, offering calm waters and great chances to spot wildlife.
September – November
Early autumn in the Nordics is still excellent for fjords, while later in the season offers the first glimpses of the Northern Lights. In November, Antarctica’s season begins, with new ice formations and the first wildlife opportunities. Egypt and the Nile are comfortable as cooler weather returns, and in the Amazon, rains begin, swelling the waterways and refreshing the jungle.
December – February
Prime polar exploration in Antarctica with sculpted icebergs and relatively mild summer conditions. The Nordics turn their focus to the Northern Lights while The Amazon and Mekong continue their dry seasons. Egypt and the Nile is at its best with warm days and cool, comfortable nights.
What should I pack for a cruise?
General Essentials:
For any cruise, bring your passport, travel documents, and copies stored separately. Comfortable walking shoes for excursions and sandals for onboard, along with layered clothing to adjust to changing weather is. A small daypack and reusable water bottle are handy for shore trips, while sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat will protect you from the sun.
Don’t forget toiletries, medications (including seasickness remedies), and a set of smart-casual clothes for dinners. Electronics such as a phone, camera, chargers, and a power bank are useful, and a small first aid kit with basics like band-aids and pain relievers is always worth having.
- Waterproof boots or sturdy hiking shoes for wet, uneven terrain.

What type of ship will I be on?
From sprawling river systems to island paradises and towering fjords, the ships we sail on are as much a part of the journey as the destination itself. The vessels and operators we choose are handpicked by our Product Managers, meaning you can be sure your trip will meet Adventure World standards.
If you're on our Patagonian Fjords with Australis itinerary, you will sail on either Ventus Australis or Stella Australis, boutique expedition ships with a capacity of around 200 guests and a focus on comfort, panoramic lounges and daily Zodiac excursions.
Meanwhile on our Grand Nordics itinerary enjoy an authentic experience on a working coastal vessel like Trollfjord or Midnatsol. Trollfjord, built in 2002 and freshly renovated in 2023, combines elegance and rugged coastal expedition spirit. It carries around 500 guests with natural wood and stone finishes, a two-tiered, forward facing Panorama Lounge and cozy but well-appointed cabins.
Authentic Alaska uses UnCruise’s small ship expedition ships. These are adventure-focused vessels that prioritise wilderness access, with days spent kayaking, hiking and exploring in the company of naturalist guides.
