Day 1
Transfer from the hotel to Wilson Airport for the scheduled flight to Tsavo West National Park. Upon arrival, you will be met by a guide for a game drive en-route to the lodge. Following lunch, there is an afternoon game drive. Ol Donyo Lodge sits proudly in the foothills of the Chyulu Range. The Chyulu Hills are the youngest range of volcanic hills in Africa, the last volcanic activity having only happened about 600 years ago. They are situated halfway between Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks on a concession of 121,000 hectares of communally owned Maasai land. Habitats range from grasslands of the savannah to green river woodlands and cool mountain forests. Ol Donyo is located within a community "ranch" owned by 4000 Maasai. All of the lodge's lease and conservancy fees are paid directly to the Maasai communal landowners to support the local community's efforts to actively protect the land. All cottages have en-suite bathrooms, electric lighting, and a veranda with panoramic views of the plains and Mount Kilimanjaro. (L)(D)
Day 2
This is a camp that embraces a community where the guides will take you to their village; these authentic experiences will change your life. Activities include early morning and late afternoon/early evening game drives in a 4x4 open vehicle, guided bushwalks, night drives, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, tracking, conservation and community outreach programs, wildlife viewing in an open-air hide and sleep outs on private "star beds", where you can sleep out under the canopy of stars and listen to the hyenas and lions moving around. Day 4
Following breakfast, there will be a game drive en route to the airstrip for the scheduled flight to Nairobi where you will connect with the flight to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the camp. After lunch, there will be an afternoon game drive. Mara Plains Camp is one of the smallest and most personal camps in the Masai Mara and hides in the thick forest on a bend in the Ntiakitiak River. Guests can enjoy game drives in both the Masai Mara National Reserve or in the privacy of the neighboring Olare Orok Conservancy away from the crowds. The Conservancy is a fabulous wildlife reserve of nearly eight thousand hectares, rich in wildlife including predators and big cats in particular. The camp has been designed and built to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Mara Plains Camp is involved in numerous ongoing projects to preserve the region's wildlife and ecosystems. One example is National Geographic's Big Cats Initiative (BCI), a comprehensive program established by the Jouberts to raise awareness about falling populations of lions, cheetahs, and other large felines and to support efforts to reverse their decline. Day 5
Depart for an early morning game drive before breakfast. In the afternoon you will have another opportunity for a game drive. The anticipation of what lies around the corner whether it is Lions under the acacias or cheetahs running the plains, this is one of the most iconic wildlife destinations on the planet. (B)(L)(D)
Day 6
You will rise at dawn with tea and coffee and depart for an early morning game drive before breakfast, catching the animals before the heat of the day sets in. You will enjoy the rest of the morning at leisure, followed by an afternoon game drive, returning to the camp as the sun sets. (B)(L)(D)
Day 7
After an early morning game drive and breakfast, you will be transferred to the nearest airstrip for the scheduled flight to Nairobi. (B)
