Day 1
On arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. This afternoon, visit the Semenggoh Wildlife Orangutan Conservation Centre and enjoy a river cruise on a traditional boat. (D)
Day 2
Explore the national park at the mouth of the Bako River, this is one of the best places in the world to spot the unique Proboscis monkey in the wild. (B)(L)
Day 3
Visit the Bidayuh Longhouse and observe the lifestyle of the tribal communities. Transfer back to Kuching for an afternoon visit to the markets followed by a cooking class. (B)(D)
Day 4
Visit the Sarawak Cultural Village. This award-winning living museum showcases Sarawak’s unique and diverse cultures in an accessible, visitor-friendly setting. After lunch visit the Santubong Peninsula for a boat tour of the mangroves. (B)(L)
Day 5
Transfer to Kuching airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. This afternoon spend some time sightseeing in Kota Kinabalu. (B)
Day 6
Spend the morning snorkeling in the marine park. This afternoon, discover the local tribes at Mari Mari Cultural Village. The village operates as a museum preserving Borneo’s ethnic culture and features five different ethnic tribes in one village; the rice farmer Kadazan-Dusun, the longhouse resident Rungus, the hunting and fishing Lundayeh, the sea gypsy Bajau, and the famously feared headhunting tribe Murut. Day 7
Today head to Kinabalu Park. The first stop is Kundasang War Memorial. This was one of the first memorials to commemorate the Australian and British Prisoners of War who died in Sandakan during the infamous death marches during World War II. After lunch, journey to Sabah Tea Plantation to learn how tea is harvested and processed. (B)(L)
Day 8
Continue your journey to Sandakan. On arrival, enjoy lunch at the English Tea House, a colonial restaurant located on top of a hill with panoramic views of Sandakan city. In the afternoon, proceed to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. (B)(L)
Day 9
Today visit the world’s largest orangutan rehabilitation center in Sepilok. Depart for Kinabatangan River. (B)(L)(D)
Day 10
Wake up to the calls of hornbills and other exotic birds and proceed to Ox Bow Lake to observe wildlife and experience the early morning river. After breakfast embark on a trek in the surrounding jungle. This afternoon take another river cruise upstream and look for monkeys, gibbons, elephants and perhaps even an orangutan. After dinner enjoy a night cruise on the Kinabatangan River, looking for civets, leopard cats, fish owls and other nocturnal species. (B)(L)(D)
Day 11
Head back to Sandakan and transfer to the airport. (B)
